The learning of mathematics is a challenge. Meeting the challenge requires concentration, perseverance, and active
participation inside as well as outside the classroom. It is also important to have a positive and respectful attitude
towards oneself, classmates, and the teacher.

The Florida Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and
parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real
world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American
students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global
economy.

Required Supplies:
Textbook and Workbooks: Students will be issued these when they arrive at school.
Agenda: The school will provide this, and students must use it every day to keep track of their assignments.
Parents will be required to sign it as well.
Three spiral notebooks: At the beginning of the school year, Walmart sells them for only $0.17. Students will
use these for their Interactive Notebooks, which is 20% of their grade.
Pencils and extra erasers: Students are required to do their work (both in class and at home) in pencil only.
Correcting pens: Red is suggested, but blue is ok.
Four-function calculator: The cheap, basic ones will work fine.

Suggested Supplies:
Colored pencils
Glue sticks
Pencil sharpener

Daily Classroom Procedures:
Before the Bell Rings:
Any day homework is due, have it on your desk.
Pick up your supplies, and be seated in your assigned seat.
Begin working on warm-up.
As the Bell Rings:
Talking ends.
Continue working on warm-up.
During the Class Period:
Raise your hand and wait to be called on if you would like the teachers attention.
Be productive.
Remain in your seat unless told otherwise.
End of Class:
Remain seated until dismissed by the teacher.

Grading:
Test and Quizzes: 30%
Projects: 40%
Interactive Notebook: 20%
Homework: 10%

Tests:
Tests are given at the end of every chapter. All work must be shown to receive full credit. Test corrections will be taken
for homework credit. If you miss a test during your absence, it is your responsibility to schedule a time to make it up
before or after school, or during lunch.
Test corrections should include the following:
The incorrect question redone showing ALL work.
Explain what you did using complete sentences.

Quizzes:
Quizzes are generally given on a weekly basis; however, they may be more or less frequent. They will always be
announced- no pop quizzes will be given.

Projects:
Although tests are important to determine learning, there are other ways for students to demonstrate their
understanding of the concepts being taught. Projects will be assigned at least once per unit, and may be individual or
group-based.

Homework:
Homework and class work are essential to understanding, mastering, and reviewing mathematics. Homework is done in
pencil and should show an honest attempt at EVERY problem. Students will be responsible to do corrections on the
problems they missed in pen.

Interactive Notebook:
Keeping a well-organized notebook of class work, homework, notes, quizzes, and tests is required. The notebook must
be kept current, and will be checked at least twice a month. Students will be given a variety of tasks that are challenging
and which will allow them to perform at their maximum level of ability.

Late Work Policy:
I do not accept late work unless you have an excused absence. Students are allowed one day per day of absence to make
up daily assignments. If you are absent, see the class website for missed assignments and/or see me upon your return to
school. I will not track you down for missed work, and there will be no make-up days at the end of the quarter. It is
your responsibility to make sure I get the work.

Tutoring:
I am available for tutoring before or after school, upon request.

How to Contact Me:
1) Email: The best way to contact me is via email, and students are more than welcome to email me questions to
their homework when working on it at home. The latest I will check homework is 9 PM.
2) Newsletter: Every Monday, there will be a weekly newsletter available on our class website as well as in print.
The schedule for the week (including homework), the student of the week, and updates on any class projects or
events can be found there.
3) Class Website: A variety of resources will be found here, including test preparation material for the FSA
assessment.
4) Twitter: Parents and students will be given Mrs. Marshalls Twitter handle, which can be used for
communication.
5) Remind 101: This app allows the teacher to instantly text students and parents reminders, homework
assignments, tests, or motivational messages. Interactions are safe because phone numbers are kept private,
and messages are one-way only.

Suggestions for Success:
Come to class prepared and on time. Be attentive and participate in class by asking questions and engaging in
discussions. Completing and understanding all of the homework is a BIG key to success in math!
