New Year
START WELL, EMBRACE
CHANGE, AND FINISH
STRONG
THE BEAUTY OF A FRESH START...
Well, here we are-the start of a new year. I love
that God makes His mercies fresh and new for
us every morning. Lets start this year fresh and
do as Paul did. Forget the past and move on to
what lies ahead. We live in the present, the past
is gone, and God holds the future. Trust Him to
give you an awesome year!
CHANGES...
You might notice some changes, both big and
small, this year. Do not be alarmed. I believe
that change is a healthy and necessary part of
growth and life. If you do not change a
workout, you will not see more results. You will
plateau, or level off. Changes push us and
shape us into the better people and students we
desire to be. God uses changes in life constantly
and the sooner we embrace the change as a
blessing from Him, the sooner we can learn
what He has for us.

In closing, set some goals. As you
read this. Long-term goals. Short-term
goals. Where do you want to be at the
end of this year-spiritually, mentally,
physically, academically? Make social
goals. Make new friends. Learn new
skills. Read more books. Write more.
Learn an instrument. Push yourself.
That said, lets make sure that we
are focusing on the now. Only God can
see the future. We live in the present
and its all that we can affect for now.
However, your choices today become
your consequences tomorrow. Dont
make future you despise present
you.
Procrastination is the enemy of
progress. I should know because it is
one of my greatest weaknesses. You will
have many projects this year assigned
to you. Parents, youre perhaps going to
think me a cruel man. Or maybe you
will think me merciful. Regardless, our
students need to learn the lost art of
thinking ahead and not waiting until
the last minute to work on projects.
This practice will be a tool for them to
use the rest of their lives.
I am the soccer coach this year,
and I have a key word for the season--
CONTROL. I plan to stress it in my
classes as well as on the eld. Self-
control is not the idea, however, but
Spirit-control. Only when we give
ourselves over to Gods Spirit that lives
within us can we truly be free from the
power of sin in our lives. Only with
Spirit-control can we be everything that
God wants us to be.
I will be praying for each one of
our students that they allow Gods
Spirit to control them this year. Please
pray for me as I will be striving to do
the same
