Grade Mission: Empowering Change

Asalamu alaikum wa rahmat ullahi wa barakatuhu,
Weve had a great start to the school year. So far seventh
grade has embarked on a preliminary journey to understand the
complexities of Allahs creation through a transdisciplinary lens.
With much effort and collaboration, the 7
th
grade teacher team
came together to devise a holistic project with real life applications
of the skills and knowledge extracted from the curriculum.
We are excited to introduce The Civilization Project that will
present the objectives and standards needed to develop a rigorous and advanced curriculum. Seventh
grade, for the second year, is working with The Future City National Competition
to develop these skills. It is a fun and exciting purposeful approach that we cant
wait to begin. We welcome any Engineers, Craftsman/woman, photographers, or
creative minds to join us in developing these realistic future cities.
In this trimester, seventh grade students will encompass a variety of
experiences pertaining to the concepts of systems and synergy. We will be delving
into the diversity of life and the classification through the Quran and the science
world. Their first unit will consist of understanding genetic contributions, gene
mutations, population shifts, biodiversity, interactions, probability of survival, and
the constant change in the ecosystem. Please see attached sheet for
further objectives. These understandings are integral in their
understanding of the environmental aspect of a civilization and the
engineers job to create technology to sustain life in a rapidly
industrialized world.
In relation to other areas of study, students are reviewing their
basic math concepts and delving into translating mathematical
expressions. It will be followed up with understanding ratios and
proportion, specifically when creating models of cities, measurements need to be downsized from life
size structures to model sized. They will also identify the components of what makes an ideal civilization
by jumping into different civilizations and dissecting them. Students will also analyze text to understand
the difference between a utopian and free society. They will delve into the Names of Allah and create a
deeper appreciation of Allahs Capability in our everyday lives, locally and globally. Furthermore, they
will investigate the lives of the companions of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa sallam to understand the
importance of heroes in a society.
