Section 1 : Creating a new Database

SQL 2000

Making sure file paths under Properties--->Database Settings are set correctly.

1. Right Click on SQL server needed to be selected and select properties.

2. Select Database Settings form the menu above.

Note the file locations for “Default data directory” and “Default log directory”.
If I:\ drive is absent then the local storage drives are If I:\ drive is present then SAN drives are selected as shown

Note: For SQL 2000 Cluster setup Make sure Default Data directory is set to
I:\ drive and logs are set to K:\ drive

3. Right click on Databases and select “New Database”

4. Type in the name of the new database to be created in the name text field. For
e.g. ‘test’ is the database name in this case

5. Click on ‘Data Files’ and ‘Transactional log’ tab to confirm the location of data
files and transactional log files are similar to the location pointed in step 2

Not SAN Attached (I:\ drive is absent)

Note: Check the path indicated once the name of the new database is entered. It
should be similar to the path indicated in step 2 under SQL 2005

Note: Once the database is created open a Helpdesk ticket for Operations
to add the database to the backup plan.

For additional information about database file locations depending on


hardware configuration refer Doc # 22315240 (Disk Configuration Guide)

Make sure that the database file locations are same as discussed above and in
the document stated above.
