Hieroglyphics not only served for records in administration, but it also was used for many other purposes as well. The Egyptian literature included everything from stories of adventure, magic, love poetry, religious hymns, and instructive manuals on technical subjects. Hieroglyphs were either written in stone like the pictures on the side or written in ink on a writing material made from the papyrus reed. The papyrus reed only grew in Egypt but was continuously in demand throughout both the ancient world and was exported in massive quantities.
