Ramstein Intermediate School: Physical Education News

Welcome back to school! Were extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with your child on enhancing
their overall fitness system in PE this year. A tremendous amount of thought has gone into planning our program in
order to ensure that each student experiences enjoyment and success both presently and for a lifetime.

Your child will be challenged to do their best and we will assist them on their path to success. Our goal is to have all
students meet or exceed challenging standards regarding physical fitness, skills and knowledge development and
citizenship. Standards will be communicated on a consistent basis and be imbedded in the process of planning,
instruction, assessment and classroom management ensuring a more focused manner in which all students have the
opportunity to reach their potential.

As we firmly believe that life-long success depends on self-discipline, we have developed a classroom discipline plan
that empowers every student while helping guide him/her to responsible choices concerning behavior.

Students that choose to break the rules will be handled as follows:
1. The student is given a warning.
2. After one warning, the student will meet with the teacher, discuss standard(s) not being addressed and self-
identify the standard that they need to work on. Once applicable standard is identified and student agrees to
meet said standard(s), the student will return to activity. Grade changed to S (P- for 3

Dress Code
For student safety, gym shoes are recommended for PE participation. Gym shoes should have tie or Velcro closure
and good rubber soles for traction and support. Students should dress for the weather as we will be outdoors when
possible and appropriate to the unit of instruction. No child will be left out of PE for having the wrong shoes; however
the safety of all students may require limited activity to occur.

We also encourage and support students bringing water bottles to PE class. Of course, check with the classroom
teacher for their policy as well.
If your child is unable to participate in PE due to injury/illness, please provide them with a medical note so that we can
best serve the needs of your child, both in terms of recovery and appropriate accommodation for continued
participation.

Structure of the PE class
1. Introductory activity-to WARM-UP the body for safe participation.
2. Fitness activity-oftentimes combined with warm-up and focuses on aerobic endurance, strength and flexibility.
3. Lesson focus-focuses on fundamental skills, movement concepts, manipulation skills, game/sport activity,
rhythmic and gymnastic activities.
4. Closing activity-review of information/concepts as necessary and COOL DOWN activities as needed.
