Dear Parents or Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year! This is going to be an exciting year for us. I am looking
forward to working with your child and I will try to keep you informed of what is happening in
room 107. To ensure a successful year, I would like to introduce you to the classroom policies
and routines.
Absences
Your child is required to bring a note after any absence. Work that has been missed must be
made up. Please let me know if there will be a prolonged absence. You can call me at 568-1330
ex.107 or email me at jasmine@bsd-ri.net. I can make arrangements for work to be picked up
or sent home with another child.
Homework
Homework will be assigned in reading, math, and spelling. Your child will be given homework
Monday through Thursday every week. There is no homework on Fridays. All homework should
be completed to your childs best ability, neatly and in pencil. I expect children to try their best
on homework and it should not take more than hour each night. If they are struggling please
write a note on the homework or contact me. Homework should not be a struggle. The
homework assignment sheet, homework, and any other papers that need transferring from
school to home will be in your childs blue homework folder (provided by the PTF). Room 107
has a class incentive for completing their homework every day! Each week they hand in all their
homework they can play homeworkopoly to win prizes from the classroom store.
Class work
Work assigned in class is expected to be completed by the end of each week. Children do work
at different paces so I do not expect everyone to always finish every assignment on time. I do
expect each child to work responsibly on each assignment. If a student is not using their time
wisely I will expect them to finish an assignment at home for homework or possibly stay in for
recess.

Classroom Rules

We follow the PBIS program at WLC. Our three general rules we expect from the children are to
be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn.
These rules were talked about in depth, and your child knows exactly what each one means. If a
student in room 107 breaks a rule, they move their stick on our behavior chart and the
following color code applies:
Green = Great day with no more than one warning
Yellow = 2
nd
warning to change your behavior
Blue= 3
rd
warning with a note home
Red = Office Discipline Referral will be filled out/ note home requiring signature
Addition problems= Office visit to see Mr. Brissette

Your child also has many opportunities throughout the day to earn Caught Us (a school-wide
ticket for getting caught being Respectful, Responsible &/or Ready to Learn anywhere on
school grounds). Your child will be keeping track of the amount of caught us he/she gets and
can turn them in for small prizes or rewards.
Grading
Any work that has been completed together in class will not be graded. We often self-correct or
partner correct so the children can find and fix their mistakes and become responsible for
quality work.
Assessments will be graded using a rubric. The following rubric will be used to assess
your childs classroom performance and skill development:
4 -Exceeds Grade Level Expectations
3- Meeting Grade Level Expectations
2- Working Toward the Grade Level Expectations
1- Below Grade Level Expectations

Snack

We will have a short snack break every morning around 9:45. The children are encouraged to
bring a healthy snack. They are allowed to keep a water bottle on their desk throughout the
day.

Lunch and Recess
We are scheduled to have lunch every day from 11:54-12:17. The hot lunch menu will be sent
home on a monthly basis. Please make checks payable to: Burrillville Youth Nutrition. Please
make sure you place the check in a sealed envelope with your childs name and homeroom
number (room 107). We will have recess from 12:17 to 12:40. Please make sure that your child
dresses appropriately for the weather.
Schedule
Our schedule for the week is as follows:

Tuesday Art 2:12
Wednesday Library 2:12
Thursday Tech 2:12

It is recommended that your child wear comfortable clothes and sneakers on the day
he/she has physical education.
School Supplies
Thank you for providing the school supplies that will help your child learn this year. Please be
aware that pencils, glue sticks, and some of the other supplies run low in the spring. Please ask
your child if they need replenishment.
*Optional donations to the classroom: These are special items that help keep the classroom
healthy and germ-free. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated throughout the year!
Boxes of tissues
Disinfecting wipes

Please keep me informed of any significant information that I should know about your child.
You can call me at school, send in a note, or email me if a problem should arise. I will be happy
to answer any questions that you may have. Please do not feel that you have to wait until
parent/teacher conferences if you have any concerns. I will also be in contact with you if I see a
problem developing. It is important that we address any issues immediately and work together
to solve them. I look forward to this school year and working with you and your child. Thank
you so much for your support. Together we can help your child have an enjoyable and
successful year in third grade!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jasmin
