Math This week we worked on multiplying large numbers, exponents, and
drawing a picture to go with a multiplication word problem. We spent yester-
day reviewing and took the Unit 3 test today. Graded tests will be coming home on Monday. Our next unit will be on dividing by one digit divisors. Stu- dents who are not solid in their facts are going to continue to struggle. Keep working on those facts at home. We are at school, but many students need more practice than that. Reading Our story next week is At the Beach. We will practice identify- ing theme within a story. We are still working on using context clues to iden- tify unknown words. Students are struggling with this. The other major weakness is identifying evidence from the text to support an answer. Stu- dents are lacking in this in their constructed response answers on the test which is causing a lot of missed points. I will be printing off Reading tests with Ds or below each week so students and you can see what is missed and start analyzing why. You can also access student tests by logging into mybigcampus.com with your childs log in information. They can help you get to where you need to be. Grammar Next week we will discuss the subject and predicate of the sentence. Students need to identify nouns and verbs to correctly identify these two parts of a sentence. Writing This week we worked on publishing our Tall Tales in Word. We will continue working on these next week and publish to Kidblog when we are fin- ished. Spelling- Our list focuses on digraphs. Students can practice online at www.spellingcity.com/triton5. Social Studies Students have been learning about Native Americans by regions. We have been taking notes in our binders which can be used to study for the test. We have finished up our unit today, but we will spend the next week doing group research/presentations on a tribe. Our test will come the following week. Science-This week we dove into various labs to practice using the concepts and scientific tools we have been reading about. We will be studying for our Science test which will come next Wednesday. Students can use their book, notes in their notebook, and study guides in their binder to study.
