In South African lapidary Magazine ,vol. 43, No 3 , November
2011 which we have received recently , we read on the loss of
Horst Windisch , a man who has contributed much to Mineral
collecting in South Africa. With Horst we had cooperated on the
International Association of Slag Minerals (IACSM) after the
foundation of this Association back in 1986 by ORYKTOLOGIKA
NEA-NEWS ON MINERALS. Horst was for some years the Editor
of the IACSM Newsletter and through this Newsletter quite a few
of information on this very interesting topic on slag minerals , was
published in this Newsletter. Highlights of his life , as were reported
by himself in an article entitled Childhood Memories of the
Sperrgebiet and published in Mineral Chatter on November
2010 , shows that Horst , very mobile man , had gained
considerable experiences between Europe and South Africa. In fact
he was a bridge or link between ORYKTOLOGIKA NEA-
NEWS ON MINERALS and the South African Lapidary Magazine
and we wish to thank him for this cooperation over the years. We
express our deep regret for the loss of Horst both to his family and
the Mineralogical Family of our colleagues in the Republic of
South Africa.
