Introduction to Engineering and Technology

Welcome to Engineering and Technology! Im very excited to see new and returning faces this semester
in my class. This will be a fast paced class with many hands on activities and projects. As always, Im
hoping that students will come to my class with a positive attitude and an open mind. A good work ethic
will be very important for finishing projects on time. Being creative and open to others ideas is also a
very important in my class. Im very excited to see what this semester brings!
What we will be covering:
All standards can be found online at www.georgiastandards.org. Select the Georgia Performance
Standards Tab. Then select: Middle School CTAE Courses. Then select: Engineering and Technology then
select the students grade level.

: Exploring Engineering and Technology Exploring Engineering and Technology introduces students
to the principles of Engineering and Technology (hereafter referred to as E & T) and its place in the
modern world. Exploring E & T introduces and has the students to work through an engineering design
process while looking at technological impacts on society. Students will also discover how technology
impacts the world around them and careers available to them in the field.

: Invention and Innovation Invention and Innovation is designed to introduce students to the world
invention and innovation along with the engineering design process. They will examine the impacts of
invention and innovation on society and solve problems through research, design and experimentation.
Students will work individually and in groups to solve problems and complete hands on activities.

: Technological Systems - This course is designed for students to utilize the universal systems model
including input, process, output and feedback. Technological Systems reinforces the areas of math,
science, social studies and language arts through practical application and/or hands on activities.

Classroom Procedures: Students should walk into class quietly, leave bookbags and other items at the
table by the door and sit down ready for me to open the class. Students must stay in their assigned seat
during class and need to have permission before getting up. I do allow students to talk as long as Im not
talking and that its at a respectable level. Students must bring each day a pencil, pen and paper to class.
All students are required to help do their part in cleaning at the end of class.

Grades:
Students are graded on participation and behavior. Projects will be graded on completion and
creativity. I do expect every student to try their best.
A - 100-90
B - 89 - 80
