NC Common Core Standards Being Addressed:

digital texts.

How the Lesson Will Flow:
Prior Learning- Students will have been introduced to the Five Themes of
Geography prior to this lesson. It will be important to make sure students
have a strong understanding of the Five Themes before they begin this
assignment.
1. Students will fold their paper into five equal sections.
2. Students will write each of the Five Themes in each section.

3. Students will brainstorm how each of the Five Themes are represented in
their life, where they currently live or where they were born/originally
from/etc.
4. After completing the brainstorming, students will choose which of the
examples from their life that they will use to represent the Five Themes of
Geography. They will plan out what visuals they will need and write an
explanation of how each visual represents the theme in their life.
5. Once students have completed the writing and pre-planning stage, they
will pick a web 2.0 tool to use as a presentation tool for their project. Tools
suggested would be PowerPoint, Prezi, Padlet, imovie, or anamoto.
6. Students will work individually on their own presentation that shows how
the Five Themes of Geography are represented in their life. Students will
include at least two visuals along with an explanation of how they are part of
their life and are one of the Five Themes.
I would suggest introducing the assignment and maybe the brainstorming
activity the day before the students use technology. This would allow them
time to collect visual images at home to use for their project.

Assessment:
An example rubric has been included for this assignment.
Students may present their projects to the class or turn their project into the
teacher.
A summative assessment may be given where students must identify which
of the Five Themes are represented in given situations.
