A Life Saved at Wheeler!

On September 12, 2014, Grant Rae - an
eighth grader at WMS - assisted another
student as he was choking in the courtyard.
Two weeks ago during lunch, Grant noticed
that a boy was choking on his food. I wanted to go
get help; to do whatever I can, said Rae. Id
taken a class and it was just sudden instinct.
Rae soon got an assistant to perform the
heimlich to help the boy. The saved boy would like
to remain anonymous, but give his thanks to Rae.
Grant, if you see me, I would like to personally
thank you for helping me.
Rae was given a Spartan Hero certificate
and was bought lunch for his efforts. I was very
thankful, the saved said.
Grant Rae receives an award from the Principal because he
saved a students life on instinct during school!

Most of us belong to one or more social media sites. But
is that actually a good thing? Should we be online all the time?
Social media has its perks. Such as fast spreading news, social
involvement, and building relationships. But are we thinking
about the cyberbullying, brain disorders, insecurities, and its
addictiveness?
Social media can also help people get more involved with family and
friends. When a student was asked how social media has helped them they replied,
I get to talk to people more.But social media can lead to cyberbullying. Many sites say
that more that more than 30% of kids on social media are getting bullied! A student
was asked how she would feel if she was being cyber bullied: I would lose a lot of
self esteem. When kids get cyber bullied, this does happen a lot. Mr. Justin
(counselor) says that he gets 3 or 4 students a month with social media problems.
Social media can also lead to brain disorders. Tests show that social media does as
much damage to your brain as drugs do. It is harmful when youre addicted. Mr.
Justin states, Statistics do say that teens are spending too much time in general.
It should be used carefully and responsibly. If you get on these sites frequently,
try to get off and do something else. You could go outside, exercise,and hang out
with your freinds and/or family. Sixth grade student says that you can Make a
schedule for when you can and cant get online. Always remember what can happen..
Think before you get on social media.
Remind yourself that its
okay to not be perfect.

The cheerleaders are back! They
have two new coaches this year: Ms.
Tiatia and Ms.Orlowski. Along side with
coach Ms.Nugent, the three teachers
come together to perfect their 20
cheerleaders to go cheer for volleyball
and basketball. The cheer teams are
learning new cheers and Miss Nugent
comments, Yes,they are doing a great
job at being sponges and soaking up the
cheers. Miss Nugent also says along side
with Miss.Orlowski, We have a wonderful
team, full of talent and they show great
potential. One of the 8th grade
cheerleaders, Alinah Barkley says,
Cheerleading is fun and I love our cheer
sisters. We all work together like the
sisters we are.
Volleyball Starts Up

At Wheeler this year, two girls volleyball teams
and one boys team have made the cut. On the
sixth/seventh grade team we have Madison (Mad Dog)
Hudec, Chloe Campbell, Alona Skilling, Cecilia (Cece)
Fenton, Aysia Franklin, Kenye William, Grace Jenwor,
Jofimia (JoJo) Weilbacher, Leilani (LeiLei) Morante, Rose
Lopez, Ester Filisi, Amari Mason, and Jekiya Nelson. The
eighth grade girls consists of Mikayla Proctor,Kyleiah
Burgess, Riley Droppleman, Merri-Lynn Jones, Catalina
Reaves, Elayna Blair,Jaden Jones, Kenye Reece, Angelica
Menjivar, and Inaiya Valentine.The boys team includes
Tyler Campbell, Liam King, Matthew Olson, Collin Hayes,
Mitchell Smith, Tyson Krob, Usala Iaulualo, Isaiah Rutledge,
Robert Walton, Ruger Burns.

Upcoming Game Schedule:
Finally it has arrived! The design is what makes this iPhone unique
from past ones. Not only is it much bigger than others- it is 4.7 inches long-,
but it is also much thinner too. The 6 plus is just as thin, but a little longer
at 5.5 inches. The material changed from glass to sleek metal. They also
have moved the lock button from the top of the phone to the right- directly
across from the volume control button. Some propose this copies the
layout of Samsungs popular galaxy phone.My opinion of the new iPhone 6
is that it looks just like the Galaxy Note 3, even though the Galaxy Note 3
was introduced a long time ago. says Selena De La Ossa, a 7th grader here
at Wheeler. And because they look alike, it seems that Apple ran out of new
ideas for phones.
For photography, its autofocus is instant- no more waiting for a picture
or video to become clear. Also, with a just a scan of your finger, you can
make purchases from the app store. When asked if all this makes the new
iPhone better, Janice Shin says, Kind of because it has the same as the
other iPhones, but its going to be a little bit more advanced. With the new
design, features, and little bit of advancement, will you be buying the
iPhone 6?
Bored at Recess?

Do you want something to do during recess? Do you love animals?
One option is the petting zoo! Its in C2 and theres a rabbit, goose,
lizard, and more! These animals are unique in so many ways. The little
goose is a little aggressive. What would happen if you got to close? It
would try to peck your shoe. Something you need to know about the
rabbit is that you should pet it softly or it would try to bite you!
The game room in F4 is also a popular spot. In the game room
there is pool, ping pong, wii, playstation, xbox, foosball, air hockey, and
basketball hoops! The game room is a great place so check it out!
