MANO
Toribia A. Mano, born on April 16, 1920 in Zamboanga City, comes from a family of
readers. Her rich experiences which she effectively used in her literary works were acquired
through frequent interisland and cross-country travels.
She started writing poems and prose when she was still in the elementary. Her knowledge
of music contributed sensitivity to her lyric poems.
Her poems were published in the Philippine Free Press, the Evening News Saturday
Magazine, the Sunday Times Magazine, and This Week in 1947 and the Philippine Poetry
Annual, 1947-1949.
Her works are noted for their local texture, vitality, technical mastery of poem writing,
intensity, and the employment of new techniques.
