A FILM

El promontorio est ubicado al sur de la baha. Es un
desierto en un sentido doble, pues adems de exhibir
la aridez que caracteriza el resto de la costa se
encuentra despoblado. Hace ms de un siglo fue
escenario de una de las batallas ms sangrientas en
la historia del pas, hecho que impide erigir ningn
tipo de vivienda.

Una serie limitada de monumentos y edificaciones
parece haber surgido de la nada: el santuario a la
Virgen, la Cruz, el llamado Cristo del Pacfico, el
Monumento al Soldado Desconocido, el
observatorio astronmico y el monumento a
Miguel. Las seis construcciones estn conectadas
por un camino asfaltado. Cada una cuenta con una
espaciosa playa de estacionamiento.
The promontory lies at the southern end of the bay. It's a
desert in a twofold sense, since aside from exhibiting the
aridity that characterizes the rest of the coast it is also
uninhabited. More than a century ago it was the setting
of one of the bloodiest battles in the country's history, a
fact that makes it illegal for anyone to erect any kind of
dwelling there.

A limited series of monuments and buildings seems to
have sprung out of nothing: the sanctuary to the Virgin,
the so-called Christ of the Pacific, the Monument to the
Unknown Soldier, the astronomical observatory, and the
monument to Miguel. The six structures are linked by a
paved road. Each one is equipped also with a spacious
parking lot.
Constellatio. A group of stars that through imaginary
traces on the apparent surface of the heavens form a
drawing that evokes a specific figure.

To draw over a surface that is no such thing. Instead of
the sky, the surface of this desert. The fog. The sound of
the ocean. The void as image.


Synthesis of an old city. All dwellings have disappeared.
A city in which the only things left standing are the
squares with their respective monuments and certain
buildings of religious significance.

Or maybe the dwellings never existed. Synthesis of a
possible city. Or of a future city whose history would
already be commemorated in those monuments. A city
that has ceased to exist and that will exist one day, in a

Constellatio. Conjunto de estrellas que mediante
trazos imaginarios sobre la aparente superficie celeste
forman un dibujo que evoca una figura determinada.

Dibujar sobre una superficie que en realidad no es tal
cosa. En lugar del cielo, la superficie de este pequeo
desierto. La niebla. El ruido del mar. El vaco como
imagen.

Sntesis de una antigua ciudad. Las viviendas han
desaparecido. Una ciudad en la que no quedan en pie
ms que las plazas con sus respectivos monumentos,
y ciertas edificaciones de significado religioso.

O quizs las viviendas nunca existieron. Sntesis de
una posible ciudad. O de una ciudad futura cuya
historia estara ya conmemorada en esos

Space of conquest. Each monument is a conquest. Silent
terrain of war, at which it is only possible to arrive at the
cost of great effort.

que existir algn da, en una dimensin fuera del
tiempo.

Espacio de conquista. Cada monumento es una
conquista. Silencioso terreno de guerra, al que solo es
posible llegar a costa de gran esfuerzo.
