DAPgateway is a software application that integrates IEC 61850 devices with your
substation system. The DAPgateway application functions as a data concentrator for IEC
61850 devices, and as a gateway to connect them to the existing substation LAN by
mapping the data objects to SCADA protocols.
What does the DAPgateway do?
Integration of the IEC 61850 devices with the existing substation system and devices

Why do we need the IEC 61850 mapping?
As outlined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Framework and
Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability standards, one of the key standards for Smart Grid
deployment is the IEC 61850. However, the common protocols used in substation
communication are the DNP3/IP and IEC 60870-5-104. The DAPgateway acts as a protocol
convertor and enables the addition of IEC 61850 devices to the existing substation LAN
without a forklift or replacement approach. Ensuring new technologies working with the
existing technologies is a key benefit of the DAPgateway.
