Lesson Plan Template for Implementing Possible Sentences

Directions: The steps for implementing Possible Sentences are listed in the box below.
This form is intended to help you select and define unfamiliar and familiar words and
write sample sentences (Step 1). Fill in the blanks below to complete Step 1.

Passage: Identify the text and the page numbers containing the unfamiliar and familiar
words.
_____________________________________________________________
Unfamiliar Words: Select 6-8 important, unfamiliar words and generate student-
friendly definitions for each word.
Unfamiliar Words Definitions
Light-sensitive emulsion a liquid mixture that contains light sensitive particles that
harden when exposed to light
Photostencil stencil made using a photographic process; a stencil made from a photo
positive and put onto a screen using a light-sensitive emulsion
Drafting film semitransparent sheet used for drawing, painting, or printing
Coating trough container used for applying emulsion to a screen
Exposure effecting something with a new or different element
Light-sensitive having a change or reaction take place when exposed to light
Screenprinting - a photographic process that allows a person to reproduce an image
over and over by printing through a stencil
Implementation Steps
1. Teacher: Select and define unfamiliar and familiar words; write sample
sentences.
2. Teacher and students: Practice word identification.
3. Teacher and students: Generate student-friendly definitions.
4. Students: Compose sentences.
5. Students: Read text.
6. Students: Evaluate, discuss, and revise sentences.

Familiar Words: Select 4-6 related, familiar words and generate student-friendly
definitions for each word.
Familiar Words Definitions
Squeegee a rubber strip attached to a handle often used for wiping, cleaning, and
scraping
Stencil a shape or image cut out of a sheet of paper or plastic material that serves as
a guide for tracing or coloring
Mesh a fabric that contains small holes
Positive image image that uses light and dark colors to represent an object or scene
as it actually appears
Negative image an image that inverts light and dark colors from those that actually
appear in an object or scene so the light colors appear dark and the dark colors appear
light

Possible Sentences: Compose Possible Sentences containing at least two words
each. Write as many sentences as necessary to use each word at least one time.
Consider writing one sentence that is not consistent with the message in the text; this
sentence can be used to demonstrate the sentence revision process (Step 6).
An aluminum coating trough is used to apply a thin layer of light-sensitive emulsion to
the polyester mesh of a screen.
A photostencil is created by first printing a positive image on drafting film.
The screen, coated with emulsion, is covered with the image printed on drafting film and
exposed to light, creating a negative image on the screen.
In screenprinting, a squeegee is used to drag ink across a screen to press ink through a
stencil and print an image.
