Jonathan Lopez Assignment week 3 Netw107

Internet Assigned Numbers Authority(IANA) takes care of global IP address allocation to Internet service
providers, oversees the data in root name servers to form a DNS hierarchy, and manages internet
protocols numbering systems. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and numbers(ICANN) has
taken up many of the responsibilities of the IANA, and was created to separate IANA from its US
government affiliation into a private organization which is under contract with United States
Department of Commerce. The Internet Engineering Task Force(EITF) is an international community of
network designers, operators and researchers, who's main focus is the advancement of the internet
architecture and is open to anyone who is interested. The IANA has administered many parameters of
IETF protocols. The IETF has a signed agreement with ICANN, with tasks that the IANA would perform for
the IETF. As for the topic of how U.S. Plans to Give up Oversight of Web Domain Manager. This seems to
be a step in the right direction for the continuance and expansion of the internet infrastructure. Some
groups seem to think that with the loss of US oversight that censorship may find its way into the system,
but this is unlikely because the minds that seek to further improve the internet I believe also want the
Web to remain an open source for all content, and is one of the reasons why it was created. After all
the NSA information being leaked to the public as well people will be happier that the US cannot
potentially implement any features that would make surveillance anymore intrusive than it already is.
Researching this assignment reminded me of a article I read on a board not too long ago about
protocol based attacks on routing security, that easily split past deployed defenses. The article
suggests that we need to advance in protocol based defenses for routing security.
