LESSON 10

DEMONSTRATIONS IN TEACHING
Good demonstration is good communication

THREE GUIDING PRINCIPLES MUST OBSERVE IN USING IN USING DEMONSTRATION AS A
TEACHING-LEARNING EXPERIENCES:

DEMONSTRATION
ESTABLISH RAPPORT
Greet your audience, make them feel at ease
by your warmth and sincerity.
AVOID THE COIK
FALACY
(Clear Only if Known)
it is the assumption
that what is also
clearly known to the
expert demonstrator
is also clearly known
to the person for
whom the message is
intended.
WATCH FOR KEY
POINTS
the good
demonstrator
recognizes possible
stumbling blocks to
learners and
highlights them in
some way. What are
usually highlighted
are the donts of a
process or a strategy.

LESSON 11
MAKING THE MOST OF COMMUNITY
RESOURCES AND FIELD TRIPS

Educational Benefits Derived
from a Field TripField trips
can be fun and educational
when they are well executed.
1. The acquisition of lasting concepts and
change in attitudes are rooted on concrete
and rich experiences. Fieldtrips are
opportunities for rich and memorable
experiences which are fundamental to
learning the lasts.
2. Fieldtrips bring us to the world beyond
the classroom. The real-world connection is
more but the benefits of broadening
teaching beyond textbooks far outweigh the
little bit of time it takes from a teachers
schedule.
3. Fieldtrips have a wide range of application.
It is not meant only for children. It is for
adults also. It is not only meant for the social
science subjects, it is for all other subjects as
well.
4. It can bring about a lot of realizations
which may lead to changes in attitudes and
insights. The field trip can nurture curiosity;
build a zest for new experience, and a sense
of wonder.
Disadvantages of Field Trips These
educational benefits can
compensate for the drawbacks of
fieldtrips some which are:
1. It is costly
2. It involves logistics
3. It is extravagant with
time
4. Contains an element
of uncertainty.

LESSON 12
THE POWER OF FILM, VIDEO AND TV IN THE CLASSROOM
Next to the home and school, I believe television to have a more profound influence on the human race
than any other medium of communication. Edgar Dale

Television,
Films & videos
Bring model of
excellence to the
viewer

Be the most
believeable

Transmit wide
range audio visual
materials
Great equalizer of
educational
opportunity
Can be both
instructive and
enjoyable.
Make us hear and
see the world
events as they
happen
LESSON 13
TEACHING WITH VISUAL SYMBOLS
Visual symbols will be made meaningful if we
can use them as summaries of our own direct
experiences or our own rich indirect experiences
A little can stand for a lot!

LESSON 14
MAXIMIZING THE USE OF THE OVERHEAD PROJECTOR
AND THE CHALKBOARD
Indeed, in no country have I ever seen a good school without
a blackboard, or a successful teacher who did not use it frequently.
-Horace Mann, noted American educator

Techniques that can help us maximize the use of the overhead projector and the
chalkboard

CHALKBOARD TECHNIQUES
OVERHEAD PROJECTOR
TECHNIQUESOVERHEAD
PROJECTOR TECHNIQUES
You can control the rate of
presenting information by
covering a transparency with a
sheet of paper or cardboard
You can use a felt pen or wax-
based pencil to add details or to
make points on the transparency
during projection.
You can show pictures and
diagrams, using a pointer on the
transparency to direct attention
to a detail.
c. Use dots as "aiming points".
This keeps writing level.
b. Stand with your elbow high.
Move along as you write.
a. Sharpen your chalk to get good
line quality.

LESSON 15
PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AND MULTIMEDIA:
WHAT IT IS?

Project-based learning redefines the boundaries of the classroom. No longer are students confined to
learning within four walls.

Project-Based
Multimedia
Learning
is a method of teaching in which students
acquire new knowledge and skills in the
course of designing, planning, and
producing a multimedia product.
By multimedia,
we mean the
integration of
media objects
such as text,
graphics, video,
animation, and
sound to
represent and
convey
information.
By project-based
learning, we mean a
teaching method in
which students acquire
new knowledge and
skills in the course of
designing, planning, and
producing some
product or
performance.

LESSON 16
USING THE PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
MULTIMEDIA AS A TEACHING-LEARNING STRATEGY

Project-based learning enables classrooms to emphasize this undervalued part of the
invisible curriculum what author Daniel Goleman has called emotional intelligence.

The effective use of project-based multimedia learning requires thorough planning.

Initial Planning involves:
1. clarifying goals and
objectives.
2. determining how
much time is needed and
extent of students
involvement in decision
making.
4. identfying and
determining what
resources are needed.
5. deciding on the mode
to measure what
students learn.
The Various Phases of the
Project include:
1. before the project
starts.
2. introduction of the
project
3. learning the
technology.
4. preliminary research
and planning.
5. concept design and
storyboarding.
6. first draft production.
7. assessing, testing and
finalizing presentations.
LESSON 17
ASSESSMENT IN A CONSTRUCTIVIST,
TECHNOLOGY-SUPPORTED LEARNING

Complex learning cannot be assessed or evaluated using any single measure. We must examine both
the processes and products of student learning.

LESSON 18
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF AN EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CENTER
We have said that the best ideas in the world are to be found in a modern library. But the modern
educational media center must include excellence in varied media - not merely in printed materials.
