Care and Maintenance of a Raspberry .

On arriving in the lab your first task is to check that the Raspberry Pi is correctly connected.
1. Next, ensure that the raspberry Pi is correctly connected.
Its power lead is connected to a ains outlet and is ready to plug in.
!he bench "thernet cable is connected.
!he keypad is connected to one of the #$% ports.
!he video display is connected to the grey box. %lack wire to black terinal, red to red
and ignore the blue.
&heck that the power supply is on and set to 1' volts.
(ake sure the video lead )yellow* is connected.
(ake sure that power is present and the display turned on. )Pressing the enu button
helps here.*
'. Now apply power to the Raspberry Pi.
!he screen will flash a sooth shaded colour pattern and then you will see the
raspberry Pi booting.
+. ,on-t worry that you cant read the screen.
Once the coputer has booted we are going to login to it via ssh and "thernet.
.. Run the Putty progra.
/. "nter 0pi- as shown below.

1. 2ou will get a console and will be asked to login. ,o so.
!he usernae is 0pi- and the password 0raspberry-
!he raspberry Pi ounts a directory on the P3, 456pi. 2ou should work in this directory.
7. ,ownload and extract the lab files into this directory.
!he contents of the directory should look like this.
8. On the Raspberry PI do the following coands.
cd comp3004.cw2
ls
cd PC
ls
If you have copied files to 456pi6 you should see soething like this on the ssh window.

9. Now it should work.
2ou can either edit files fro the P& ) but don-t use notebook, use $&i!e,* or on the Raspberry Pi
using vi or nano.
2ou can use &O,"55%:O&;$ on the P& to experient with a P& version. $tart &O,"55%:O&;$ and
open 0rgl.workspace.
%uild the software using ake. 2ou ay see essages about clocks out of sync. !hese will go away
when we run an N!P server on the P&.
!he Raspberry Pi is configure with the correct version of $,: there is no need to build it for the lab.
If you need to reconfigure the ake files, you need to edit premake4.lua and run premake4. I
don-t have a version that runs on the Raspberry Pi yet. <owever

version 0google preake- you can run it fro a coand propt in the 456pi directory.
premake4 os=linux gmake
!his coand will build new akefiles for you.
