INDUSTRY OF WATER PURIFIER IN INDIAN
MARKET
ONE man's meat is another's poison can well be said in the context of the bottled
water controversy. Even as the ripples seem far from receding on whether the
pesticide-residue in packaged drinking water is a reason for concern — the
water-purifier industry has lost no time in sniffing out an opportunity.
And in case you miss the point, the advertisement has in its background copies of
media reports on `Pesticides in bottled water.'
The Union Health Ministry too had met discuss the subject and according to
sources; the inclination was towards aligning with the European Union (EU)
norms.
However, the Bureau of Indian Standards reiterated its stand on the issue and
said: "That it took into consideration the limits set by the USFDA, the EU, the
World Health Organization (WHO), Codex etc. and decided that since bottled
water was a value-added product and in keeping the public/consumer interest,
the (BIS) committee unanimously decided to quantify the maximum limits for
pesticide residue and made the necessary amendments to the two Indian
standards".

whether the nomination will have a positive result: winning the award. "I am
sure the market leader will always retain its position," says Palekar, "but the
real story here is not whether we win or not. The real story is that we have
been conformed as being synonymous with the generic product i.e. water
purifiers once again."
It is a wait that has all at EFL keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best,
for S K Palekar the nomination is by itself, yet another recognition of the brand
name being a success. "I too am waiting with bated breath, the heart says we
will definitely win, but the mind says one should always wait for the formal

The consumer validation process short listed 652 brands from the original
1,699 brands. This was further scored upon by the Super brands Council,
which selected 205 brands, each scoring not less than seven marks out of
ten.
Of these, 91 Super brands have been inducted into the second edition of the
Consumer Super brand 2006-07. ACNielsen evaluated the details.

2007, Mr.S.L.Goklaney and Ms.Vandana Chouhan received the Superbrand
trophy and the certificate from the Governor of Maharashtra His Excellency
Mr.S.M.Krishna. For Euroclean, the award was received by Mr.Marzin Shroff

Competitors’ Analysis:
Initially Eureka Forbes was the only company manufacturing water purifier, in
Sambalpur. It used to enjoy a monopoly market. People there were not aware of
any other brand. But with changing times, other companies had emerged with
their technologies and products. With the help of branding and media these
company has gained a little importance in the town of Sambalpur. Though the
mass of the population is still using Eureka Forbes- Aqua guard, but still people
are aware of some of the brands which have emerged. They are as follows:

Product Satisfaction:
During the market survey we have found that maximum people of Sambalpur are
more or less satisfied with the Eureka Forbes – aqua guard. Around 75% of the
people are using the product out of which only 10% are not satisfied due to some
reasons, they are:
• Poor after sales service
• Lack of transparency in promotional events conducted
• Only high end products having unique features.
Product Improvement;
Although most of the people of Sambalpur are using Aqua guard, still the product
is in a requirement of improvement in certain things. They are –
• E boiling technology should be more user friendly so that it can be easily
handled by less educated people.
• Service should be improved in order to maintain long term relationship with
the clients.
Company Analysis:
Few years back a poisonous chemical, Arsenic, was found in the drinking water
of Sambalpur, which had harmed many residents. From that time people became
very cautious about pure drinking water and decided to use water purifier in their
regular life. That was the time when Eureka Forbes Aqua guard came into
existence. It was the only product which was there in the markets of Sambalpur.
The people started using it and Eureka Forbes started enjoying a monopoly in the
market. Although other new companies have come up with their products, still
most of the people do not want to shift to any other brand. Aqua guard has
earned the faith of the people of Sambalpur. Aqua guard has become a ‘generic
name’ for all water purifiers.
Thus we can say that Eureka Forbes Aqua guard is capturing fairly a large
portion and is holding a sound position in the town of Sambalpur in Orissa.

generic name and has goodwill. People there are very satisfied with Aqua Guard.

Out of 50 respondents users want some improvement in the project. They are as
follows:
Quality – People are looking for some extra quality like e-boiling technology.
Technology – Two people wanted more additional technologies in the product
After sales service – There were two respondents who were not satisfied with
after sales service.

PRE-CONCLUSION
We had met different kinds of people, coming from different religion and stratas of
the society, in these areas. Thus we came to know about the different views of
these people.
After the survey we came to a solution that the people of Sambalpur are very
much aware of Aqua guard and maximum of them are satisfied with the product.
We came across some people who are using aqua guard for more than 5 years.
Although maximum people are satisfied with the product but still there a pinch of
dissatisfaction among some of the consumers. But the ratio of these people are
negligible.
The chunk sampling method has helped us a lot in doing the market survey. This
is because this type of sampling attempts to obtain a sample convenient
elements and often respondents are selected because they happen them to be at
right place at the right time.

CONCLUSION
The survey has showed and proved that Eureka Forbes is enjoying a
monopoly in the markets of Sambalpur. We have found out from the survey
that people use the word “Aqua guard” as a generic name for all water
purifiers no matter to which company and brand it belongs to.
Moreover our survey has showed that most of the people are using aqua
guard in their work place as well as in their homes.

Although Eureka Forbes- Aqua guard is capturing a large market share, still
there are certain things which the company should take care of. They are:-
