Essential Question(s):
How do I understand color, texture, contrast
and balance to create a strong landscape
painting?
How can I effectively use mixed watercolor
media to paint a landscape?
How can I mix the correct colors in my
landscape?
Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge):
Students are familiar with resists from
science class, and watercolors from
previous art classes.
Other considerations (modifications,
accommodations, acceleration, etc.):
Students who are having trouble with
resist painting will get assistance from me
More advanced students can do a series of
pieces
Resources/Materials

Teacher:, National geographic, nature images
Students: Watercolors, aqua crayon, watercolor
pencils paper, brushes, oil crayon,

Daily: Daily observations of students working on projects.
This Week: Completion of sketch
Unit: Final painting and participation in critique

TUESDAY 10/7
Learning Target- TSW learn about how to
do a sketch for a vibrant oil resist/mixed
media landscape painting. TSW know this
when his/her sketch is complete.
Do NowCover table with newspaper, get a piece of
paper, get watercolors, oil pastels, a few brushes, and 2
yogurt containers per table.
-Demo how to create background color with watercolor,
details with aqua crayon and watercolor pencils. Discuss
importance of waiting until piece is dry to do details.
-Demo resist and write word on board
-Pick images from Natl geographic or image bin
-Start sketching piece with pencil

WEDNESDAY 10/8

and paint correct background color. TSW
know this when his/her background is
painted.
