RE: ACCEPTANCE

Dear Mr. George Brookover,
I would be thrilled to accept the job opening at Washington Academy. Teaching
again will help to ease my mind off this Star Spangled Banner incident. I am looking
forward to seeing you on Monday morning in Room 216
Sincerely,
Ms. Margaret Narwin

MISS ROONEY: Good afternoon class!
CLASS: Good afternoon Miss Rooney.
MISS ROONEY: I am here to tell you that my last day will be Friday, before I leave for
a sabbatical, so I can get my Masters Degree in teaching and let you
guys and gals learn even more!
STUDENT: But Miss Rooney, you cant go! Whos going to teach us our lessons and
read with us?
MISS ROONEY: You will have a long term substitute who is very nice and was a
teacher at a local district for over twenty years. She will have all my
instructions as to how things run around here, but she is still going to
need help, so I want all you kids to be respectful.
PHILIP MALLOY: How long are you going to be gone?
MISS ROONEY: Unfortunately, I wont be back until the start of next semester.
PHILIP MALLOY: That stinks! I just got here and you already have to leave!
MISS ROONEY: I know its disappointing Philip. By the way, nice job on your test!

MRS. MALLOY: Hi honey. How was your day?
PHILIP MALLOY: Horrible! Miss Rooney is leaving!
MRS. MALLOY: Oh thats terrible Philip! How come?
PHILIP MALLOY: She said she was getting her Masters Degree in teaching so we can
learn more.

MRS. MALLOY: Well Im sure shell be back soon.
PHILIP MALLOY: How about no! Shes not coming back until the beginning of next
semester!
MRS. MALLOY: Im sure your substitute will be almost as good.

Man, it really stinks that Miss Rooney is leaving. I was just starting to know her
and then... POOF! Shes gone! I really hope our long-term substitute isnt like Narwin. I
really hated her with a passion. Im also super bummed that they dont have a track
team at Washington. Im starting to think that this is a sign. No track team, Miss Rooney
leaving, now what? Anyway I had an English test on Wednesday, and guess what?! I
ACED IT! No, not just an A, a 100 percent! Parents were proud. Im thinking about
joining the swim team. I can learn how to execute a whole different type of speed. Mr.
Brookover visited me the other day and asked if I would want to join a club to get my
mind off running. Im definitely not joining some nerd club like Math Club. Or even
worse, English Club! No way, no way.

MR. BROOKOVER: Good morning Miss Rooneys class.
CLASS: Good morning Principal Brookover.
MR. BROOKOVER: Id like to welcome your new substitute teacher until the rest of the
year, Ms. N.
CLASS: Good morning Ms. N.
MS. NARWIN: Good Morning, nice to meet all of you.
PHILIP MALLOY: NARWIN?!
