Questions
In chapter 27 when Mcdougall is running in his hometown in Pennsylvania he relizes something
important about how running affects him. On his sixth lap coming home it is that he discovers
this important effect what is it ?Why is it that Macdougall keeps pushing when he only intended
to do 5 miles and continues? Do you think if you ran everyday you would have the same effect
McDougall had?

Mcdougall realizes that running makes his mood totally different and instead of being grumpy it
improves his mood and makes him a much happier and a better person. Macdougall even says
My personality even changed :the grouchiness and temper Id considered part of my Irish-
Italian DNA had ebbed so much that my wife remarked hey, if this comes from ultrarunning ,
i'll tie your shoes I knew aerobic exercise was a powerful antidepressant (Mcdougall pg 212-
213).
I believe Mcdougall keeps pushing because he wants to love running but because he have
learned to love running again and in now in his true form of a natural born runner. I think that is
everyone applied what is in this book as well as just adding runnin got their daily lives people
would be a lot happier because it is proven that physical activity improves peoples happiness. I
think that if i did run everyday or at least once a week I would be a lot happier.

In chapters 27-28 When Mcdougall is talking about the american diet vs a diet where everything
is grown, what is it that he sees the difference between these two diets? What happened after the
Japanese strat to take on the american diet? Do you think if america changed they way they eat
it would improve the risk of having certain diseases and improving our style of living?

The difference between the two is that one is obviously healthier than the other but if you chose
the more healthier diet not only will you be healthy and possibly lose weight but you can prevent
the most terrible diseases out there. For example when in japan there wa s maejor difference in
the two diet to prove one is better that the other and much better. For instance in this quote Dr,
weinberg has said. colon, prostate and breast cancer were almost unknown in japan , he points
out, japanese started eating like americans; within a few decades , their mortality rate from those
three dessies skyrocketed.(Macdougall pg 209). This proves exactly my point on how these two
diets have a major impact as well and two different lifestyles. I believe if american changed the
way they eat and ran as well we as a whole could make major changes in the way were are living
now and make all these health problems preventable. No it will no make everything better but it
would be a start and positive change.

Why is it that Nike killed the running field, why is Nike the blame for the failures in our running
and our feet? Do you think if Nike wasn't a around and such a mass producer for running shoes
we would have less problems ?
