Date: September 30, 2014 Subject/Topic: Internet Safety

Summary
This lesson will incorporate the usage of classroom computers and internet; it will
require students to have an understanding of the internet and basic computer skills.
Students will learn five items that are known as personal information, they will compare
and contrast different kinds of friends, they will understand the appropriateness of
giving out personal information online, and they will understand how to respond to
anyone that ask for personal information. To address diversity in the classroom we will
use activities that address cultural and racial awareness. Students can discuss diversity
within their families and students will understand how to respect other cultures.
Students with disabilities will be taught according to their individual education plan; any
accommodations that are needed for said students will be met in the classroom.

Assessment
Formatively assess the students by asking the following questions and they will
record their responses in their journal.
What is an online friend?
What is considered private information?
How are online friends different from real life friend?
What should you do when an online friend ask for private information?
When should you tell your parents friends have asked for private
information?

Students will be formatively assessed by creating a Venn diagram showing the
differences and similarities between real friends and online friends.
Objectives
Students will be able to
Name five things that are known as personal information.
Compare and contrast online friends and real life, face to face friends.
Understand that private information should not be given to people
online.
Know how to respond when an online friend ask a personal question.
