With their elbow partner, the students will briey share their rst two parts of the KWL chart. Also, they will discuss the similarities and the differences that they have.
Middle Read the book An Illustrated Timeline of Transportation by Kremena T. Spengler. The book discusses transportation starting as early as 6300 BC and moves on to modern times. I will tell the students that we will be mainly focusing on transportation from the 1900s through the 1930s. Throughout the book, the students can jot down notes that they nd important. Throughout the reading, I will stop at the main objectives that are set at the beginning of the lesson plan the assembly line, different modes of transportation that were invented during the time period, and key people throughout the time. After the text is read, we will hold a Question & Answer session specically about the focused time period. This will provide clarity as needed for the students.
Activity Students will split up into groups (set-up by the teacher the lesson). The different groups will be assigned different modes of transportation Cars, Airplanes, Trains, & Ships. Each group will create a skit about their assigned mode of transportation. They can use the information from the book and use the the internet for additional information. Each group will present their skit to the class.
