Overview of the Lesson In this lesson we will be providing the
students with a worksheet that requires them to unscramble English sentences and communicate with their partners in English. They then will rewrite the sentence in the correct English sentence structure, ask their partner the corrected question, and record their partners response. This allows them to practice sentence structure while interacting with classmates using the English language. Description of Learners 6th- 7th grade boys and girls (even gender ratio) Ages ranging from 12-14 years old 2-3 years of English education classes Overall speaking/ understanding ability is low to moderate low Technology level is low Intended Learning Goals The students will learn accurate English sentence structure. They then will apply what they learned by writing a coherent paragraph of what they learned about their partner. They will also be practicing interacting with classmates using the English language and improving their technological abilities.
Lesson Content scrambled sentence structure verbal involvement application of technology Learning Objectives Given the 12 scrambled English sentences on the worksheet the students will be able to write the sentences in proper English grammatical format. Given the 12 scrambled English sentences on the worksheet, the students will be able to create a response to the questions and get at least 8 sentences correct. As for homework the students will use the given worksheet and their responses to the questions on the worksheet to formulate a cohesive paragraph about their partner from the knowledge they gained on the worksheet. Standard 7- Listening and Speaking: Skills, Strategies and Applications Language minority students will listen and speak for specific purposes to negotiate and express meaning ELP 7.7.4 Prepare brief, simple oral presentations that are narrative, informational, or descriptive and express through role play or with simple words, phrases, sentences.
Required Materials the scramble word worksheet a pencil one partner Procedure Find a partner unscramble the sentences ask your partner the unscrambled questions Make you are splitting up the questions every other that way you unscramble 6 questions and your partner unscrambles the other 6 on their own. Then check each other's work. answer each others questions and write down their answer on your paper when you are finished check each others work. As homework you each will pick 6 of the 12 questions and your partners responses and write one paragraph about the information you learned about your partner Assessment We will grade the paragraphs we sent home as homework on how well the student was able to write coherent, grammatically correct English sentences about their partners. They did this study using Iranian college students learning English as a foreign language. They read reading comprehension text in English. This study researched the relationship between the use of reading strategies has and reading comprehension performance. To make sure the test was homogeneous they selected 40 EFL learners at Islamic Azad University of Toneabon. A pretest was taken by two groups. One group was an experimental group and they were exposed to reading strategies instruction for 10 sessions.
