Growth Plan 2014/2015

Lynn Suttie

Professional Goal and Rational #1 Walking Together
I aim to develop a positive and open relationship with students parents and
guardians, encouraging all members of our community to walk together.
Communication between teacher and parents can help aid in the students success
in class, as well as create a supportive atmosphere for both the students and parent.
Parent involvement and support helps to promote and maintain student success,
positive contact with parents allows for full support of the students.

Reflection How am I improving student learning?
Creating an atmosphere where all members of our community are
walking together this promote the success of our students. By reaching
out to parents in a positive way I can help foster my students success
in their learning.

Professional Goal and Rational #2 Faith in Physical
Education

Strategies Timeline Indicators Evidence of
Achievement
As often as I can, I
will change
activities
throughout the
week.
Phys. Ed schedule
permitting; after
cross country
running we will be
able to incorporate
different types of
activities and a
variety throughout
the week.
Students arent
getting board with
the same activities
and sports.
The students
experience a
variety of
activities, games
and sports
throughout the
week and
throughout their
semester.
I will explain why
each activity is
important and how
it benefits us,
physically,
mentally and
emotionally.
This will be an
immediate, daily
discussion.
Students begin to
realize the various
importance of
activity, and arent
asking, why are
we doing this?
after a while.
Daily we talk about
physical activity
benefits. Students
begin to know
these reasons
without prompting
from me.
Showing students
that you dont need
to be playing a
sport to be being
active.
Anytime we have
time to do
alternative
activities.
Students get to do
numerous
activities at
different times,
more than just
playing sports.
Students begin to
find other activities
that interest them
other than sports.

Reflection How am I improving student learning?
By connecting physical education and health to our faith we are
helping students develop their own relationship with God. Many
students may only experience this connection with God through
physical movement and activity.

Professional Goal and Rational #3 Blogging
I aim to incorporate a student blog into my Physical Education teaching with a pilot
class for the 2014 school year. I will develop questions that encourage and foster
discussion, allowing students to reflect and develop ideas about physical education
in a different way. This will allow students to reach a higher level of thinking when it
comes to Physical Education and their own physical literacy.

Physical Education
Website
The first month of
school the students
will be introduced
to the blog, they
will reply to each
blog post.
Majority of
students are
responding to the
blog and going
beyond
expectations.
Students have had
successful
discussions via the
class blog.
Class Time For the first 4-6
weeks giving the
class time during
the week to
complete their blog
posts
All students are
completing their
posts for the week
Students have had
successful
discussions via the
class blog.
Motivation for
completing the
blog (prizes or fun
activities)
Once students are
familiar with the
procedure (4-6
weeks)
More students are
completing the
blog posts without
prompting or class
time
All students are
engaged and
responding to blog
posts

Reflection How am I improving student learning?
Using a blog will hopefully help students to reflect further on physical
activity, what that means to them personally, its importance and
where we can be active in the community. This different approach to
Physical Education may allow some students to be more confident
with physical activity topics, when in the past they may not have been.
Also, blogging will allow students to discuss and verbalize their
thoughts, as well as reflect on each others ideas.

Professional Goal and Rational #4
To introduce, encourage, and foster an interest and knowledge about FNMI culture
and people. Including FNMI tasks into physical education through cross-curricular
lessons and cultural exemplars, allowing students more insight into FNMI people.

Strategies Timeline Indicators Evidence of
Achievement
Use of our school
resources that are
available to me, in
order to
incorporate FNMI
games and culture
into Physical
Education, as well
as my other
courses.
Discuss the various
resources available
to me before
classes begin, and
begin to make
plans within the
first month of
school, doing a
thorough lesson of
various FNMI
games before
Christmas.
Discussion and
follow through
with plans and
discussions about
FNMI guests and
resources.
Scheduling a day
for visitors to
attend class.
A thorough class
demonstrating
numerous FNMI
games, and
cultural.
Ask students for
cultural games that
will not only
include other
cultural games, but
also be a great
opportunity to
incorporate FNMI
culture and games.
Students can begin
brainstorming
cultural games
after cross country
is done near the
end of September,
and then we can
use these games as
warm up games, or
play each game on
a particular day.
Students are
coming to me with
game ideas, and we
are using students
games in class.
We incorporate
numerous cultural
games into
physical education
classes. Including,
but not limited to
FNMI games.
Teaching students
about the northern
games that I have
played will be both
educational and
fun for students.
When cross-
country is done
and we have a day
to play organized
games, once I have
the materials we
can play northern
games.
I gather the
materials for
northern games
and schedule a day
to play them with
my classes.
I have taught my
students northern
games and played
them successfully.
Relating them to
FNMI culture and
explaining their
origin.
