Wetlands serve important roles for the biomes of the environment by regulating and
controlling the amount and speed that travels to other ecosystems. Wetlands provide
various organisms with nutrition for them to establish a niche. high tides provide the
necessary nutrients that help feed animals. Wetlands are really important to the
environment because they control the fluctuation of water in and out of an ecosystem.
When the water levels rise they retain, or hold water back to prevent flooding. When the
water levels are low, this system slowly releases water to give water back to where it is
needed. Currently there are policies that are being pushed such as the Ramsar Convention
which protects 37 million hectares of land, 1.1 million of it is in the United States. The
policies involve the management of water supplies and food plains as well as the control of
pollutants.

ThoughtsontheTopic
I think that the protection of wetlands is very important and essential in order to
preserve and maintain our ecosystems. I found it interesting that wetlands regulate the
environment and are central to plant and animal life. I believe that more action should be
taken to protect these system. Wetlands are in danger due to various factors which are
making them reside. I agree with the articles solution of restoring wetlands by implementing
policies. These policies can take quick action to conserve a valuable aspect of the the
ecosystem.
