1: Define Threatened Species: Species that have a high risk of extinction in the near
future.

3:Whataresomeofthehumanimpactstobiodiversity?
Some of the human impacts to biodiversity are habitat loss, over harvesting, climate
change, pollution, deforestation, and invasive species. For example, in habitat loss,

4:Whatarethecharacteristicsofkselectedspecies?
The characteristics of k selected species are long life spans, few and large
offspring,goodprenatalcare,slowpopulationgrowth,andstablepopulationsize.
5:Whatarethecharacteristicsofrselectedspecies?
The characteristics of r selected species are short life span, many reproductive
events with many offspring, little to no parental care, high variable population size, and
potentiallyrapidpopulationgrowth.
6: What are some causes for species to become threatened or endangered more than
others?
Some species are more likely to become threatened or endangered more than
others because of the category they are in such as kselectors, specialists, and the
reproductive problems of small population sizes. Kselectors usually become endangered
because it is harder for them to increase their population size as rapidly as rselectors.
Specialists become endangered because they often have a limited diet and depend on
particularfoodandhabitats.
7:Whatcanwedotoprotectendangeredspecies?
In order to protect endangered species, we can preserve habitats, protect
organisms through legislation by penalizing people who harvest or sell endangered
organisms, and create breeding programs where organisms are bred and then released
back into the environment. Finally, education is key to protect endangered species by

8: What are some laws that protect endangered species? How do we know if the law is a
UnitedStatesLaworInternationalTreaty?
Some laws that protect endangered species are the Endangered Species Act, the
Lacey Act, CITES, and the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Endangered Species
Act protects endangered species from being hunted in the United States. The Lacey Act
was introduced in the early 1900s which protects biodiversity and prohibited the interstate
travel of endangered species. The Convention for International Trade and Endangered
