".1 Re=ection on Planning
I found tis plan to be e5tremely diJcult to design# I felt as toug
tere was so muc information about New York tat I wanted to include& yet
tere was not enoug time to co$er all of te information in dept# I began to
de$elop te plan wit a speci,c goal in mind# I wanted te students to be
able to see wat it was like to immigrate to New York from someone wo was
actually tere# I wanted te students to use a primary document to
understand tis time period# Ine way to impro$e te plan is to possibly gi$e
te students a pre)test about New York# 6is would allow me to a$e $ital
information regarding wat te students already know and wat tey would
need more support wit# I tink tat tis would also elp me to ,nd te best
information to include in one period#
I tink tat a potential success of tis lesson is te read aloud and
sort re0ecti$e piece# I tink students will en-oy earing wat tis e5perience
was like from a boy wo was -ust about teir age wen e ad to deal wit
immigrating# Also& I tink te students will en-oy taking on te role of an
immigrant and describing wat teir e5perience was like# I tink tey will like
to use teir imagination and step out of te typical classroom to complete
tis assignment# My only concern wit lesson implementation is timing# I
ope tat te timing of te lesson goes as planned and te students do not
rus troug tings or mo$e too slow# I am willing to mo$e certain tings
&
along Duicker but I want to make sure tey a$e adeDuate time to produce a
tougtful& creati$e re0ection on teir -ourney to Ellis Island#
