ICT application: FLIPBOARD was used in an activity during this class - to enhance learning and create boundless resources for the students, with different sources of information to promote students multi literacy skills. The ICT activity promotes higher order thinking where students need to analyse articles, evaluate their relevance and create their own magazine using the Flipboard application. They have to apply their newly learned knowledge when presenting to the class (as they stay students learn the most from each other). This ICT activity helps their understanding and therefore the retention of the content.
Resources: FLIPBOARD (Online personal magazine) available from the app store

Class: Year 10 Topic: Exercise and Mental Health Introduction: 10 minutes
Hook Activity: As a class together in a group we take a walk around the school before settling back into class (E5 pedagogy: Engage)
Body of the Lesson: 35 minutes Explanations on the physical activity and the impact it can have on an individuals mental wellbeing.
Once the class has settled back into the classroom - Lead the students in a conversation about why they think we just took a walk?
Prior knowledge: What do the students already know about this topic exercise and what it does for our mental health? Brainstorm ideas on the board together as a class! (E5 pedagogy: Explore)
Once discussion has settle the students need to explore the idea of physical activity and the positive effects it has on peoples mental wellbeing. This leads into an ICT application activity. FLIPBOARD - Own Personal magazine: Get students onto the Flipbaord app and following the magazine you have created with current articles and snippets relating to exercise and mental health. Students need to read through your own magazine and use it as an example for their next activity.
Activity: Write a broad inquiry question on the board What effect does exercise or physical activity have on our mental wellbeing? Students in groups of 4 are to look through the articles in your magazine and ones like it to gather a range of different resources elaborating on the inquiry question. Students need to create their own FLIPBOARD magazine with relevant articles and then present it next lesson. If the students do not get their magazine done in class it is to be set for homework.
- This activity will be used as formative assessment: to monitor student learning so we can provide feedback that can be used to improve their learning.
(E5 pedagogy: Explore & Elaborate)
Conclusion of the lesson: 5 minutes
Students have the chance to ask questions regarding the activity Set homework: Complete magazine ready to present information during the next class (All students in the class will then have access to everyones magazine and the range of resources they have researched so they have a comprehensive resource list regarding the topic)
After Lesson Comments/Reflection: Was the aim achieved? How did you measure this?
Want to evaluate the effectiveness of the activity so remember to ask students how they thought the activity was in regards to their learning around the topic Real evaluation will come from the relevance of the magazine presentations next lesson
