founded by Raja Rammohan Roy.
born from a Brahmin family.
learnt many languages such as Arabic, Sanskrit, Persian, English, French, Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
wrote many books in different languages. Some of them- Percepts of J esus Christ, The Guide to
Peace and Happiness.
joined the East India Company in 1805 & till 1814.
founded Atmiya Saba in 1815 -> Brahmo Samaj in 1828.
principle -> one supreme god.
fought against idol worship, costly rites & rituals, practice of Sati, polygamy, child marriage.
Because of him, Lord William Benatick passed Sati Prohibition Act in 1829.
supported intercaste marriage and widow remarriage.
died in 1833 at Bristol.
title given by the Mughal emperor Raja.
was called as Herald of New Agein india.
after Roy, carried by Keshab Chandra Sen and Devandranath Tagore.
Bcz of Keshab,an act was passed in 1872 to abolish polygamy and child marriage.
Prarthana Samaj 1867
founded by Dr.Atmaram Pandurang in Bombay.
advocated child marriage and Purdha System.
then Maha-Deva Govinda Ranade
