From Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Matthew Sieberg has just received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Bemidji State University where he studied under Dr. Stephen Carlson. As a scholarship recipient at the university, Matthew has enjoyed the many performance opportunities that the university and community offer.
His career as a pianist began at the age of 11 as a church musician and school choir accompanist. Under the tutelage of Dr. Gary Thorn, his passion for the instrument grew. Other than solo concertizing, he is an active chamber musician and collaborates in many recitals and concerts, including rehearsal pianist for the Loon Opera Company and orchestral pianist for the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra. His participation in piano competitions and master classes also fuel his devotion for the instrument. Matthew was awarded Minnesota Music Teachers Association 2012 Artistic Ambassador and participated in a concert series of northern MN. In 2011, he began teaching at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts and has a studio of 14 students.
Matthew owes his success to the support of his family and the patience of his instructors. Future goals include graduate school, teaching and concertizing. Of the many graduate programs to which he was accepted, he chose to attend the University of South Carolina and has been awarded an assistantship based on his audition.
