Am I Eligible for
Government Paid
Treatment?
You are eligible if you have a valid
OHIP card and fall within following
the criteria:
Under the age of 19.
Have been discharged from a
hospital after an overnight
stay for a condition.
If you receive income from
Ontario Works or the Ontario
Disability Support Program.
Over the age of 65 and living
at home or in a retirement
home: Contact a Community
Care Access Centre (CCAC)
by phone or in person through
your local CCAC.
If you require physiotherapy
contact your doctor or nurse
practitioner to receive a
referral.

How Many Sessions Do I
Get?
The frequency and duration of visits
offered are dependent on your condition
and individual needs.

Your physiotherapist will use their
clinical practices and judgment through
evidenced based evaluation to make that
decision.

You will be discharged when you
meet your objectives in the treatment
plan, if the equivalent gains are able to
be met though self-care, or if no
further gains are likely to be achieved
through physiotherapy services.

OHIP does not cover services that focus
on maintaining a level of existing
function. A new referral from a
physician or nurse practitioner is needed
for each additional episode of care.

After Physiotherapy
It is recommended that you continue
with home exercises and/or a
community program to maintain and
improve functional ability after
treatment.
