Rabbit Population at the School

Suppose that one pair of rabbits comes to the school, like what they see, and decide to mate
there. One pair can produce 8 offspring each year. Assume that males and females are equally
balanced, that all the members of a generation reproduce each year, and that no rabbits die.
Calculate how many offspring will be produced each year for 4 years.

Consider this: if this year the population starts with 2, that one mating
pair will produce 8 offspring. Those 8 offspring will be able to make 4
mating pairs. How many offspring will they make for year two if each
pair produces 8 offspring? Repeat this pattern to fill in the table. If you
need help, see the introductory activity. Careful, look for the difference.

Show your calculations below

What if this pattern continues for 10 years? Use a calculator and write down your calculations.

Does this pattern look realistic? Why or why not? What things are not being taken into
consideration?
