Audio Books
Matching Worksheet
As students enter classroom, have iPad on their desk open to audio
book being used for lesson. They will be able to explore book prior to
lesson.
As students enter classroom, they will find their iPads on their desks
opened up to the story titled Lilly, the Wild cat. They will be allowed
to explore this story for a few minutes while all students find their
seats. After all students are seated, the teacher will proceed to instruct
them about the Front of a book, the back of a book, and the title page
of a book. Teacher will then read the book with the students. When the
book is finished, she will ask them to volunteer to identify the parts of
the book that they are learning. This will continue for three weeks.
After three weeks of repeating this on a weekly basis, students will
begin their Independent practice. They will be expected to quietly read
a book on their Ipads, using their headphones, using the audio book as
a crutch if they get caught on a word that they do not recognize. They
will then be expected to complete the matching worksheet that they
will be given to prove that they understand the concept that they were
taught. This will continue on once a week for the school year.
Teacher of Kindergartners reads book aloud with students gathered on
floor in front of him/her. After book is finished reading, teacher will
ask students about the book and help them to recognize what is the
front, the back, and the title page of a book. This will repeated for one
week. After the first week, teacher will read book, and then ask the

students to volunteer to answer the same questions about books to

verify that they have a firm grasp on the concept.
After reading the books, and answering questions in a guided practice
Independent
for 3 weeks, students will be expected to read their books individually,
Practice and
using their iPads to assist them in the reading, and then complete the
Assessment:
matching worksheet that will be provided. This will continue on once a
week for the remainder of the school year.
This lesson is made to accommodate many different learning styles.
For Gifted students, they will be able to work ahead or at their own
pace, because the books that they will be reading will be on their
iPads. The SLD students will benefit from this lesson because they
Accommodations/ will be able to work at their own pace, as well as receive help at home
Modifications:
if they are struggling by bringing their iPad home with them. The
ESOL students will find it helpful because it is an audio book, so they
will be able to let the book be read to them and follow along with the
words, helping to teach them their words, and letters, all while
completing the lesson.
