This strategy is used to help students brainstorm, make connections, and help make visualize meanings. Students can use either clustering or mapping when organizing information. Clustering links ideas using a two dimensional map and mapping is more structured and used mostly after the students have finished reading. How you plan to use this strategy in your Practicum, Internship, Student Teaching, or in your classroom: I plan to use this strategy is my student teaching as a way for students to help visualize and organize information about the different sports they learn in class. Mapping would be a good strategy to use after finishing two or three units. Students will make a map and connect things that are similar in the sports and compare it to the things that are different.
