Curriculum Expectations to be met include the following:

Identify key concepts related to your topic through brainstorming and an organizer
Formulate effective questions to guide your research and inquiry
Create appropriate research plans to investigate your selected topic ie) outline key areas, identify
and evaluate sources
Locate and select relevant information relevant to the investigation of your sources from a variety
of sources ie) articles, reports, Stats Can, books, documentaries
Assess various aspects of information gathered from primary and secondary sources ie)
accuracy, relevance, reliability, bias
Analyze and interpret research information ie) compare information, determine whether similar
info is found in a variety of sources
Demonstrate academic honesty by documenting the sources of all information gathered ie)
citations and works cited
Synthesize findings and formulate conclusions ie) weigh and connect information, analyze the
impact of the information
Use appropriate format ie) research essay and oral presentation
Use terms relating to Social change and Social Sciences correctly ie) theories, paradigm shift,
alienation
Clearly communicated the results of your inquiries ie) write clearly, organize ideas logically, use
language conventions properly
Explain how various economic, environmental, political or sociocultural factors cause or resisted
change in relation to your topic
Explain the impact of social change on individuals in Canada on Canadian Society or country of
your topic

Success Criteria What do you need to show to be successful in this assignment?

Locate and evaluate relevant information for your topic. Submit source list and evaluation
handout by __________________.
Gather relevant information from a variety of sources minimum 8 of suitable depth ie) 3+ pages
and at least 3 at 10+ pages
Determine key information relevant to your topic and organize in a logical manner in an essay
outline. Outline should be detailed point form and at least 2 typed pages
Create a rough draft essay. This should be a completed essay that you have edited. It will be
peer reviewed for strengths, weaknesses and clarity. Peer Review Day _________________.
Participate in peer review to assess the strengths, weaknesses and clarity of a peers essay. An
evaluation form will be completed and included in your grade.
Information requirements on assignment sheet must be me ie) key events, impact
Findings must be synthesized and organized in a logical fashion ie) make sure you are organizing
your research in topics and time rather than which source your read when.
Show understanding of how events connect and change occurs

Sources and citations done in proper format at correct times and included with essay Academic
Honesty
Essay has been carefully edited for grammar and spelling
Key terms and theories have been included in paper
Use effective teaching tools during presentation
Be well prepared and rehearsed for presentation
