Sociology

Modern society seems to not place sufficient value on relationships. Certainly not as
much as it should. Statistics show that forty to fifty percent of marriages end in divorce. People
no longer look at marriage in the sacred way it should be viewed. People are quick to jump into
superficial relationships and marriages without understanding what they truly entail, including
loyalty, understanding, and love. As a result, people are quick to go in and out of a relationship
because they did not put a high enough importance on them initially. This can also be seen in the
statistics regarding child neglect and abuse. Every ten seconds, a new case regarding neglect or
abuse is reported. Many people have clearly forgotten the powerful relationships that God has
created for us.
I think that regardless of whether or not one follows a religion, relationships are central to
life. I wouldnt necessarily say that relationships like the ones living things have with each
another are central to the universe because to me that implies that we are the ultimate reason for
the universe, which I do not necessarily think is the case. But within the realm of living things, I
do believe that relationships are the central theme. There is nothing more powerful than the
relationships that we have with one another. Technically, one could argue that we do not need
relationships to survive, but I think that everyone needs relationships in one form or another to
achieve contentment and fulfillment in life.
The most important relationship for a Christian would be the relationship between the
believer and God. For me, I think that I need to be more willing to let God into my life and trust
that He has a plan. I often forget that He is always there for me, and I neglect to look towards
Him in times of need. I think I need to put more faith in His plan for me. I need to put in more
trust, which is foundational in any relationship.
