SUBJECT: Chancellor Nancy L. Zimphers Compensation

As you know, there has been considerable public interest regarding our
deliberations over the chancellors compensation. Many of us believe that the
position should be more competitively compensated, and as the successful
leader of the largest comprehensive system in the country, Chancellor Zimpher
deserves to be paid on par with her peers across the country.
Chancellor Zimpher has never asked for a raise, and yesterday she
notified me that she does not wish to have her compensation reviewed at this
time. It is my strong belief that we respect her wishes and table this discussion.
I commend the chancellor for recognizing there are much more important
and pressing issues that deserve our focus.
I know you join me in extending our collective gratitude to Nancy for the
job she has done and the continued good work we can accomplish together on
behalf of our students and the State of New York.
