Unit
Summary:
Posters
can
be
used
as
a
tool
to
educate
and
visually
bring
awareness
to
the
public.
We
are
surrounded
by
various
issues
causes
and
organizations
striving
to
make
positive
changes.
For
example,
one
issue
currently
affecting
California
is
the
drought.
Other
issues
include;
waste
management,
environmental,
bullying,
health
and
fitness,
and
safety,
etc.
In
this
unit
students
will
explore
the
issues
we
are
currently
facing
as
a
society
and
causes
within
our
community,
as
well
as,
globally.
Students
will
chose
the
issue/cause/organization
for
which
they
want
to
raise
public
awareness.
This
will
be
accomplished
by
students
learning
traditional
and
computer
skills
which
will
be
incorporated
when
creating
a
Public
Awareness
Poster.
Students
will
conduct
research,
create
a
digital
mind-map,
and
draw
thumbnail
sketches
and
roughs.
Each
student
is
expected
to
participate
in
class
discussions
and
critiques.
Printed
posters
will
be
presented
to
the
class
and
displayed
throughout
campus
in
an
effort
to
bring
awareness
to
our
school
community.
Assessment
Plan:
Entry-Level:
Survey
-
prior
to
beginning
the
unit,
students
will
complete

created
for
the
Raising
Public

unit.
Discussion
-
the
results
of
the
survey
will
be
shared
and
discussed
in
class.
This
will
allow
the
students
and
teacher
to
discuss
issues
and
causes
affecting
our
community
and
globally,
as
well
as,
raise
awareness
to
various
organizations.
Formative:
Mind
Maps
-
students
will
create
mind
maps
using
words
and
drawings,
consisting
of
a
minimum
of
four
rounds,
in
an
effort
to
visually
organize
their
research
and
ideas.
The
mind
map
will
be
used
as
reference
throughout
the
project.
Questioning
-
throughout
the
unit,
the
teacher
will
promote
higher-order
thinking
by
individually
talking
to
students
during
work
time
regarding
their
chosen
issue/organization.
Mid-Critique
-
teacher
and
students
will
participate
in
a
critique
mid
project.
This
will
further
enable
the
teacher
to
monitor
the
status
of
students
work.
Students
will
have
the
opportunity
to
discuss
any
problems
they
are
encountering,
as
well
as,
asks
questions,
offer
feedback,
problem
solve
and
suggest
design
ideas
to
one
another.
Checklist
-
students
will
monitor
their
progress
throughout
the
project
to
ensure
they
are
on
track
and
completing.
Summative:
Poster
Presentation
-
students
will
present
their
digitally
created
posters
in
an
effort
to
educate
the
class
by
raising
awareness
to
their
issue/organization.
This
will
be
accomplished
by
explaining
the
reason
for

of
the
project.
The
rubric
will
be
used
when
evaluating
students
work
and
assigning
a
grade.
Students
can
refer
to
the
rubric
as
they
progress
through
the
unit.
Reflection
-
students
will
complete
a
reflection
sheet
which
allows
them
to
write
about
their
experience
with
creating
the
poster,
what
they
liked
best,
what
could
be
improved,
what
new
knowledge
they
learned,
and
how
they
can
apply
it
to
their
daily
