Ask the students: What is a primary colour? What is a
secondary Colour? What does complement mean? From this,
what do you think that a complementary colour is? Where do
we see colours that are complementary outside? (poppies,
sunsets over an ocean, lady bug on grass) What does
symmetry mean? Is a poppy symmetrical? What kinds of
things in nature are symmetrical? (butterfly, snowflake,
peacock feather, starfish) Is a poppy symmetrical? (not in
nature but ours will be) (Learning Activity 1)
Ask the students: Where do we see a scalloped edge in
nature? Are the colours were using complementary? Why are
our poppies symmetrical? (1, 4, 10) (Learning Activity 2)
