Evaluation

The LMS will evaluate the collection to make sure that the best materials are available to
meeting the needs of the users. This evaluation will help determine
How well the collection meets school and Virginia SOL curriculum needs
How well the collection meets the personal needs of the students
How funds will be allocated for acquisition
What materials need to replaced, mended, or discarded due to quality
Outdated or inaccurate materials
Strengths and weaknesses in the collection
The LMS will evaluate the collection using physical examination, end of year inventory,
circulation studies, user opinion surveys, and checking against current bibliographies.

Physical evaluation
The LMS will identify materials that need to be mended, repaired, bound, replaced,
removed, or discarded based on their physical condition. Volunteers are asked to notify
the LMS of any especially worn materials.

End of the year inventory

The LMS will take notice of missing materials at the end of the year. It will be
determined if the missing title is important to the collection. It may needs to be reordered,
placed on the materials for consideration list, or removed entirely from the collection.

Circulation studies
Circulation data will be studied to determine the level of usage of materials.

User-opinion surveys
After a class has used library materials to study a unit (research projects, materials to aid
in unit) the LMS will email the teacher a user-opinion survey. Informally, the LMS will
talk to the students about reading materials they would like to see in the library.

Checking collection against current bibliographies

Titles in the library will be compared to lists containing recommended. This will help
determine what sections of the library need to be updated.
