Reflection Essay

Alas, the year is ending and nostalgia is in the air, the time to reminisce has come. Its been
close to four months since starting my Comp1 course. The class has challenged my writing skills, as well
as enhanced them. Yet, this class has made me grow as a writer too, educating me on things I can carry
on to other courses, as well as life. The course has showed me the types of citations I shall carry on,
along with different essay styles, and overall given me better skills that Id like to take with me for many
more experiences.
Firstly, let me begin with the citation styles Id never heard of until Comp1. Due to this class, I
learned citation not only useful for the rest of my comp courses, but for other types of courses as well.
In high school I had already learned MLA citation, although I didnt learn the specifics of it like I have in
Comp1. At the beginning of the semester I couldnt turn in a perfectly cited MLA paper from the lack of
knowledge I had on it, but now Im a lot closer at it than I was then. The class has also shown me the
appropriate citations for Science or Psychology essays or research, with APA citation. MLA and APA
citation are entirely different, APA is a little more complicated but still simple. Both MLA and APA
citations are very useful, and will help me when I venture into more science and writing courses.
Moving on, to discuss ESSAYS, SO MANY! Over the past few months, we have been assigned quite
a few essays. All of them being somewhat of a challenge to our writing skills. Yet, the challenges have
also helped my skills grow. From A Goal essay, to compare and contrast, and to argument styles, they
were all difficult in their own ways. The Compare and Contrast essay was difficult for me since the
comparison was between two very similar subjects, while the Argument Essay was a challenge with
having to find an opposing view and sources to support it. Although, the most challenging was the
Argument Essay, I had a hard time finding good reliable sources for an opposing view or for just more
than one view, this challenge also opened me up to how the future may be with certain essays.
Enhancing my research skills is something I hope to gain in the future, but this class definitely helped.

Last not least, how am I going to take what Ive learned with me to the future? The skills that I have
acquired through this class will be carried on throughout all of my writing, from small grammar advances
to enhancements on personal writing to essays and etc. My planned major currently is Journalism, and
the knowledge that Ive gained with sourcing and persuasion, as well as citation and more will help me
better with future goals. Journalism is a career of mostly writing, and knowing what youre saying and

where its coming from, and Comp1 has taught me me majority of that. With the knowledge its brought
me, I will be able to carry it into my dream career.
In conclusion, not only has this course helped me grow as a writer, its given me confidence as
well. Although, even this essay has had its challenges, all of the challenges have advanced my skills. I
look forward to the future when I can take what Ive learned and apply it to the present and future.
