Biodiversity and cultural diversity go hand in hand when it comes to having effects on a

country. Russia is among those countries and suffers huge threats from the biodiversity sphere
which then greatly effects the cultural diversity of Russias citizens. Biodiversity, according to
the National Wildlife Federation, is a variety of life. It can be studied on many levels. At the
highest level, you can look at all the different species on the entire Earth. On a much smaller
scale, you can study biodiversity within a pond ecosystem or a neighborhood park. Identifying
and understanding the relationships between all the lives on Earth are some of the greatest
challenges in science. Cultural diversity is the cultures in a specific region; and when bio
diversity and cultural diversity play off of each other, that creates problems that need to be
solved for the greater good of the countrys benefit.
The biodiversity of Russia is extremely unique to Russia alone. Their terrestrial zonal
ecosystems include polar deserts, artic tundras, forest steppes, and mountain ecosystems
(QUOTE). This tundra climate that Russia upholds creates dramatic weather, landscape, and
vegetation. The wildlife that can brace this weather, is a different story. Russia is home to more
than 400 types of mammals and birds alone, but among those animals, very few live in the
northern most region of Russia. That pushes the Russian wildlife population more towards the
southernmost boarders of this country.
Cultural diversity then comes into play thanks to the threats that biodiversity has
created. Russia is in fact known for its very vast weather conditions, which places the
population of Russia into a smaller portion of the land that can actually be suitable to live in.
The push that the harsh weather does onto Russia migrates both wildlife and human being into
the same area to then continue their lives in harmony. Unfortunately, wildlife is becoming

extinct in this great land because of the encroachment that they have done in Russias modern
living spaces.
The culture of the country has been greatly influenced by the nature in a way that
protects Russias citizens from these harsh weather conditions. Moscow is a fantastic
example when it comes to showcasing natures influence on culture. Each famous building in
Moscow, including Ostankino Tower, the Government Building of Russia, Bolshoi Theatrethey
are all made sturdy to withstand the brash winds that tear through Russia. The natural rivers
and lakes that are indented into the great land become scenic views for those who live there,
and tourist attractions for those just visiting.
All in all, the cultural diversity is effected by the biodiversity of Russia, but not as an
alarming percent. Russia has extreme tundric temperatures, but that does not mean that Russia
is uninhabitable entirely.
