Brainstorming and planning your essay

1.

Look at the essay question. How many parts are there? This
will be the number of sections in the main body of your
essay.

2.

Draw a mind map for each section.

3.

Look at your notes, the articles, the books or websites that

you have read. Make notes on the mind maps, ONE AT A
TIME. Write down anything you think of it shouldnt be
perfect this stage. Just writing down all your ideas is the
important thing.

4.

Decide which of your ideas on your mind maps are relevant

to the essay title. Which ideas are extra? If you have ideas
that are not connected to the essay title, dont use them in
your essay!

5.

For each paragraph / mind map, decide what order you are
going to put your ideas in.

6.

Write a topic sentence for each paragraph

7.

Write the supporting details for each paragraph

8.

Write the introduction general statement, thesis and

scope.

9.

Write the conclusion.
