BANDWIDTH/BPS- Is used for transmitting a signal from a range of frequencies in a given band BROWSER- a program with a GUI for displaying HTML files, used to go through the WWW SEARCH ENGINE-A program that searches and identifies things in a database are related to keywords specified by the user META TAG- A special HTML tag used to store information about a web page but is not shown in a web browser HTTP-Hypertext transfer or transport protocol, the data transfer protocol used on the WWW HYPERTEXT-A software system that links topics on the screen to related information and graphics, which are typically accessed by a point-and-click method. IP ADDRESS/NUMBER- A unique set of numbers separated by periods that identifies every computer using the internet protocol to communicate over a network DOMAIN NAME-The part of a network address that identifies it as being a part of a particular domain URL/URI- The address of a webpage 1
WEBSITE-A location connected to the internet and has one or
more pages on the WWW NETIQUETTE-The acceptable way of communicating on the internet FIREWALL-A part of a computer system or network that is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting outward communication. COOKIE- Data sent by an Internet server to a browser, which is returned by the browser each time it accesses the same server, used to identify the user or track their access to the server. CLOUD STORAGE-A secure way to store important documents, and images etc.. without using and external hard drive , through internet access NET NEUTRALITY- The principle that internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source ADWARE-Software that automatically displays or downloads advertising material (often unwanted) when a user is online. VIRUS / MALWARE A code that is capable of copying itself and typically has a bad affect, such as corrupting a system or destroying data DATA-MINING-The practice of examining large databases in order to generate new information DENIAL OF SERVICE ATTACK-An illegal attempt to put a computer system out of action by overloading it with data from many source simultaneously PHARMING-The fraudulent practice of directing Internet users to a bogus website that mimics the appearance of a legitimate one, in order to obtain personal information such as passwords, account numbers, etc 2
PHISHING-the activity of defrauding an online account holder of
financial information by posing as a legitimate company: SPAM-irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients.
