Importance of Consultation

Surah Al-e-Imran
159. (O My Esteemed Beloved!) What a mercy of Allah that you are lenient with them!
Had you been stern and hard-hearted, people would have deserted, scattering away from
around you. So pardon them, and pray for their forgiveness, and consult them in
(important) matters. But once you make up your mind, then place your trust in Allah.
Surely, Allah loves those who trust Him.
160. If Allah helps you, none can overpower you; but if He abandons you taking away all
support, then who is it that can help you after Him? And the believers should rely on Allah
alone.
Surah As-Shura
37. And those who refrain from major sins and the indecencies; and when they feel
furious, they forgive;
38. And those who submit to the command of their Lord, and establish prayer; and their
decisions are made through mutual consultations; and they spend in Our way out of the
provision which We have given them;
It is narrated by Abu Hurairah
his companions as Rasulullah

that: I did not see anyone consulting so frequently with

did.

(Tirmidhi)
Ali
narrates that he asked: O Rasulullah
! If we have a matter in which
we do not have any specific order, to do or not to do, what do you order in this regard to us? He
said: Consult those who have good understanding of Deen and are devout worshipers, and do not
decide on an individual opinion.
(Tabrani, Majma-uz- Zawa'id)
Ibn 'Abbaas
narrates that when this verse was revealed: (And consult them in affairs)
then Rasulullah
said: Behold! Allah and His Messenger are above consultation.
However, Allah has made this a source of blessing for my Ummah. So, anyone of my Ummah who
consults others, he remains on the straight path, and anyone who gives up consultation he
remains in distress.
(Baihaqi)
