MATH 381- Complex variables and transforms

1. Description: Analytic functions, Cauchy-Riemann equations, simple mappings, Cauchys theorem,


Cauchys integral formula, Taylor and Laurent expansions, residue calculus. Properties of one and two-sided
Fourier and Laplace transforms, the complex inversion integral, relation between the Fourier and Laplace
transforms, application of transform techniques to the solution of differential equations. The Z-transform
and applications to difference equation (time permitting).
2. Prerequisites: MATH 264.
3. Textbook: Complex Variables, by A. David Wunsch, Pearson.

Tuesdays from 12h30 to 13h30, or by appointment.
5. Marking scheme: 20%Assignments+30% Midterm+50%Final Examination.
6. Midterm: The midterm test will be given in class and held on Tuesday October 21.
7. Assignments: The assignments and solution outlines will be posted on MyCourses. Please note that no
late assignments will be accepted.
8. Lecture times: 8h35 to 9h55 TR Burnside Hall 1B45.
8. Tutorials: The tutorials will start on the week of September 8. Locations and times will be posted on
Minerva and MyCourses.
