Security Plan

Eric Minson

SecureTek needs improvements to eliminate security risks. The first thing that should
take place is the instillation of security cameras. Security cameras help lower the risk of
having illegal activities and unauthorized personal on the premises. My plan includes
installing 21 cameras on building facing towards the outside perimeter. These 21
cameras are placed at angles and positions so that the entire perimeter is covered. The
also capture the parking lot. This will help put an end to the thefts taking place to
employees cars by catching the culprits before the theft occurs. There is a camera
facing the front gate to show those coming and going. There are 3 cameras located on
the inside of the building. One pointing at the left side door, one pointing at the main
entrance door and the last one will be in Lab 1 pointing at the door that connects to lab
2. The entrance door to lab 1 from the outside will no longer be functional. This door is
just an emergency exit. This is due to the highly classified research taking place in lab
1. The cameras will be on a Network Video Recording (NVR) System. This will allow for
a large amount of cameras at cheaper costs and easy instillation. Enough memory will
be bought to allow for 2 months of saved video. There will be 6 large monitors in
Security Control. There will be 4 cameras on each monitor. The interior cameras and
the outside main entrance camera will be grouped on the same monitor. The other
cameras will be grouped into 4 based on location of camera. Intrusion alarms will be
placed at all windows and also at the outside inside door of Lab 1.
The next objective is to create a fence along the perimeter. This will be a 7 foot chain
link fence with 9 gauge wire. There will be an additional foot of fence at the top to form a
top guard. The top guard will face both directions and will consist of 3 different types of
barbed wire. This will prevent intruders from climbing over the fence. The fence will be
at least 20 feet from the building. On the left side of the building between the 2
entrances a lifting gate and security control center will be built. All employees must
show their employee badge with their picture to the security officer to gain entrance to
the property. Guests must be on a guest list and they must be escorted by an employee
at all times including from the gate onto the parking lot. The entrance doors will use a
card operated system. The doors will have a reader for a magnetic coded card. The
magnetic sheet will be sealed inside employee ID badge. Lab 2 will also have a
magnetic coded lock. To gain access one must have authorization, once authorization is
established the employee ID badge will be given permission to enter the lab. To enter
lab 1 authorization must also be granted, once authorization is granted he employee ID
badge will be given permission. The entrance to Lab 1 will also have a finger print
scanner; both will be used to unlock the door. To unlock the door one must first show
the badge to the card reader, once the card reader has read the card 10 seconds will be
given for the employee to have his/her thumb print read. Five attempts will be given
before a lock out period of 30 minutes will take place. This is to ensure that no
unauthorized personal has access to the classified research.

There will be lighting placed close to the fence. The light posts will be installed 10 feet
away from the fence so that it cannot be used to climb down. The lights will be metal
halide lights. These lights are more efficient than most lights and will produce a bright
white light. This will allow for security to spot intruders at night. The parking lot area will
also have this same lighting so that suspicious activity can be easily spotted. On the
buildings outside sodium vapor lights will be installed. They will be placed at a distance
from each other that provides ample light to observe suspicious behavior. There will
also be 3 metal halide lights installed on the building next to the 2 functional doors and 1
nonfunctional door. This is to scare any would be intruders away.
The last thing that will be done is hiring security guards. There will be at least 3 security
guards on shift at all times. There will always be one located at security control to check
employee id badge and control the gate. There will always be a security guard at a desk
at the front entrance. This security guard has the responsibility of walking through the
building every hour doing checks. They are to report any suspicious behavior to the
security manager. The third security guard will be responsible for the perimeter and
parking lot. They are to keep an eye on the security camera and to do thorough
inspections every hour of the fence and parking lot. This will help prevent thefts in the
parking lot. These security guards will be contracted out through a security agency. This
will help reduce costs. There will only be 4 security employees hired by SecureTek, the
security manager and 3 security supervisors. The security supervisors will be split into
different shifts (the day shift, night shift and the weekend shift). This will help keep
supervision on security personal contracted out by a security agency. The supervisors
will report to the security manager. The security manager is over all security personal at
the site. The security supervisors are over all security personal except the security
manager. The security supervisors will assist the manager by taking managerial
responsibilities when the manager is not in a position to do so. This will reduce the work
load on the security manager so he/she can concentrate on other security issues. This
will also help security run more smoothly and efficiently.
